Citrus County Seeks Public Input on Draft Data Center Regulations to Protect Citizens and Florida's Nature Coast

CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. (Sept. 4, 2026) — Citrus County has developed a draft of data center regulations designed to provide protections for residents and Florida’s Nature Coast environment. The county collaborated with residents in developing the proposed regulations and is seeking public input on the draft.

The draft regulations are available for viewing at citruscounty.gov/DCregulations. Public comments may be submitted by email to comments@citruscounty.gov.

Comments will be accepted for approximately 30 days. Following the public comment collection period, the proposed regulations will be scheduled for public hearings before the Citrus County Planning Development Committee and Board of County Commissioners.

Citrus County is currently under a temporary moratorium prohibiting the development of data centers. The moratorium was approved unanimously by the Citrus County Board of County Commissioners in May 2026.

The moratorium was enacted to give the county time to develop these land development code standards specifically addressing data centers, with the goal of creating more legally defensible community protections.

There are currently no pending applications for data centers in Citrus County. The county remains committed to taking a proactive approach by preparing these regulations to address any future applications that may be submitted.
